… is a great facebook group where students post the things they’ve heard at the Institvte. I just spent the last 15 minutes reading these things (and laughing heartily, I might say). The only problem is, sometimes, people try to apply the nerdy things they’ve learned and gotten the concepts wrong (arghhh!). The taste of fail is not sweet, to say the least.

As I have been following quite a few Math and CS-related blogs in the ’sphere’, I have been toying around with the idea of writing about the subject myself. Now, I don’t have anywhere near the amount of knowledge that other bloggers have, but I hope that you, my dear readers, can still find some interesting things amongst my entries.

It is 10:30 AM on the 21st of November, I’m sitting in my lounge, writing notes down for my 18.104 talk that I’m giving in half an hour, but I can’t help but stop and note how beautiful it is outside.
Good day!

I think I want to learn everything.
Time to start working!
(This is one of those odd times when I feel completely inspired to do absolutely everything I can. The difference between now and all the other five million times in the past is that I have perspective. I think.)
Also, Hayden is so absolutely wonderful an environment.
Currently:
Reading the 6.840 text. I’m having dinner with Professor Sipser tomorrow night (as part of the Undergraduate Math Department’s “take your professor to dinner” deal). Exciting!

And by higher ground, I mean the second floor at Hayden Library. I just left a 6.003 review session early. It wasn’t too helpful; they basically reiterated the fact that the exam on Tuesday would cover the three units that I already knew it would cover. But at least I’m sure of that now, and am able to study in peace (!!).
My trip to Hayden was a little different today. I usually come here to walk around the Math section, pick out one or two books that I probably won’t read, and check them out so that I can not read them at my own leisure. Instead, today, I went to the basement and picked up two books by Kazuo Ishiguro: Never Let Me Go and The Remains of The Day. He’s supposed to be a great writer, and Remains was actually the winner of the Booker Prize for contemporary fiction. This is the same prize that Life of Pi, The Blind Assassin, and The God of Small Things won, and I’ve loved them all. Well, to be fair, I only read half of God of Small Things, but it still struck me enough to write my MIT admissions essay about reading it. I guess I just cheated admissions a little by not finishing the entire thing. But I do not expect that to happen this time.
I used to love reading so much, after all.

If you guys have any time to kill, go to www.onemanga.com and check out One Piece. It’s pretty much the best manga ever (I promise).

As making lists of lifestyle choices seems to be in fashion these days, I decided to make a few resolutions myself.
- Pushups and Crunches every night. 100 each, to start off
- Practice c-walk every day.
- Take the stairs
- Drink Water
- Eat more salad
- Don’t leave clothes strewn about
- Don’t complain about my life. I don’t have it bad at all.
- Read my Murakami. At least 1 story a week.
Some of you might notice that this is a little different from what I usually make - these are actually reasonable. Usually, when I set my goals, I consciously set them too high, in the hopes that I’ll rise to the challenge (this sometimes happens, but usually doesn’t). With this, I was trying to ease myself into forming some good habits - things that will be good in the long run.
I hope my lifestyle will be all the better for it.
